How to schedule Twitter long posts (via push notifications)

Twitter Long Posts

Twitter/X has made it possible to create long tweets that are up to 25,000 characters long, as long as you have Twitter blue / X Premium subscription, but is only possible when using Twitter/X natively.

These posts are different from Twitter threads, which you can already schedule and post directly through Publer, as shown here. Keep in mind, you cannot add replies to your long tweet, so you can't turn it into a thread.

There is no API at the moment, that allows posting long tweets directly. However, with the help of a semi-automated system, you can now share these posts through Publer. You will need to download the Publer Mobile app so you can share your long posts to Twitter via push-notifications.

Posting Long Tweets

1. To post long tweets via push notifications, after you have already installed the Publer Mobile app:

Go to Publer.
Select the Twitter account and select the option to Long Post.
Design your long post to your liking and schedule it accordingly.

Note: Publer will automatically detect if you are creating a regular tweet or a long post based on the characters (length) of the post.

Scheduling Twitter Long Posts

Similar to regular Twitter posts, you can add up to 4 photos, a GIF, or a video. Learn more about the post types and their limitations here.

This means you will have finalized the first part of the scheduling process with the semi-automated system. Once the time comes, you will receive a push-notification/reminder from the Publer mobile app, letting you know that your post is ready.

In order for this step to work, you need to make sure that you have turned on all your notifications from Publer. Learn more about that here.

2. To finalize and publish the post:

Click on the notification sent by the Publer Mobile App, or the in-app notification.
This will lead you to the post, where you can see the long post preview.
Click on Open in Twitter. This will open the whole post in Twitter.
You will be redirected to the Twitter app, where you will be able to make any last minute changes and then publish the post.

You cannot add follow-up comments to a long tweet and turn into a thread. To schedule a Twitter thread using Publer, follow the steps here.

3. When you are redirected to the Twitter/X app:

Depending on what device you are using, the media or text will be pasted accordingly. The different scenarios are:

iOS

For every scenario, when you click on Open in Twitter:

The whole text, including links, will be pasted automatically when the Twitter app is opened.
The media will be saved in your device's library, and it needs to be manually added to the post.

Android

For every scenario, when you click on Open in Twitter:

The whole post, the text and the media, will be pasted automatically when the Twitter app is opened.
Sometimes the media, i.e. photos, will not be pasted in the same order. Make sure to manually re-order the media in case they are not sorted accordingly.

Note: An in-app video tutorial will show up accordingly, explaining what steps you need to take to finalize the post in the Twitter app.

Keep in mind:

Twitter long posts can contain up to 25,000 characters, as long as you have the X Premium subscription.
Publer will automatically detect when your post exceeds the regular post character limitations and convert it to a long post accordingly and vice versa.
Publer won't be able to gather insights, or sync posts, given the lack of an official API. However, you will always be able to find all the long posts you share to your Twitter account under the Posts > Posted tab.
You can't use specific post options, such as adding a follow-up comment, Location, Auto-Delete or Auto-Share, due to API limitations.
