How to add a location to Facebook and Instagram posts

Location tagging is only available for specific types of posts on Facebook Pages and Instagram Business accounts

It is always a good idea to let the audience know where your brand is located. This way, it can grow faster and get real-time feedback. Here's how you can add locations to posts in Publer.

To add a location to your posts:

Click on the Create button
Select at least one Facebook Page or Instagram Business Account and start creating your post
Click on the Location icon

Type the desired location you want to add and make sure to select it

You can customize the location tag when posting to multiple Facebook Pages and Instagram Business Accounts

Make sure to click on save

Pro-tip: You can set a default location to tag under social account settings

How to find a location to tag by ID

Meta API may not always return the desired location, especially if there's no Facebook Page associated with the location, i.e. cities and countries

Here's how you can work around this API limitation.

Search for the location to tag in Facebook Places on desktop (important)

Note: When tagging a location by ID, make sure to use Facebook Places, not Instagram Locations.

Go to the Location page and copy the ID from the URL

Paste the Location ID from the URL in Publer

Make sure to select the search result and click on save

If no search result is returned, it means that particular location ID cannot be tagged via the Meta API

The Facebook Location ID should also work for Instagram since they share the same API, but if for some reason causes posting errors, we will be remove the location

Keep in mind:

Location tagging is available for Facebook Pages and Instagram Business accounts. The other social accounts don't support geo-location tagging due to API limitations.

You cannot add a locations for Facebook regular videos, GIFs, stories, or reels scheduled via reminders

Twitter/X has deprecated the ability to search for a location to tag. Previously scheduled posts with a location tag will be shared as usual, but you won't be able to edit or view the tagged location.
